Who: Lisa
What changed: I drew out the important parts of her story and wrote them up for her
What happened: She saw the value in her story, and got her ability to tell it back
Lisa knew her story.
That was part of the problem.
She’d told it enough times that it had gone stale in her own mouth:
“It can get old fast when you share it just a few times and it starts to feel like something everyone already knows and is sick of.”
I hear a version of this a lot.
You’ve lived your story. You’ve repeated it. You’ve stopped noticing the good bits.
So you assume everyone else has too.
They haven’t.
I went through Lisa’s story, pulled out the interesting and important points, and put them into story form.
Then she read it.
“What was most amazing was seeing it so clearly reflected back to me that it touched my heart and made me cry, like someone saw into my soul.”
I’d like it noted that making clients cry is a professional skill.
Now Lisa has stories for her main social media, so people can get to know her, what she does and why she does it.
And she got something I can’t put a dollar figure on:
“It has reinvigorated my ability to tell my story.”
Here’s what you can take from it.
You are the worst possible judge of your own story.
You’re too close to it. So is every woman I’ve ever worked with, and so am I.
The parts you skip because they seem obvious are often the parts that make someone think, she gets it.
This isn’t luck. It’s what I do.
A coach. A budgeting product. A story that made a woman cry.
Four different businesses. Four different results.
The same belief underneath every one of them:
Most businesses are only one or two stories in their marketing away from an endless amount of clients.
I don’t say that because it sounds good on a website.
I say it because in 2013, I used product storytelling to take my husband’s plumbing tool to 72 countries with no ad spend.
A plumbing tool.
Along the way I’ve:
- Worked with women in business since 2014, and more than six thousand women in total
- Taught story-based marketing for the world’s largest women’s entrepreneurial coaching group, and been its in-house copywriter
- Written copy at World Vision Australia that helped raise millions
- Written three books, including How to get into the hearts, minds and purses of women clients so they buy now
- Spoken in front of more than 10,000 people
I told you. Show-off.
But let me be clear here.
I can’t promise you a million dollars. I can’t promise you five times your price. Your results will depend on your business, your offer and what you do with the work.
What I can promise is that I’ll tell you the truth about your marketing, and you’ll end up with words that sound like you.
But better.
Could your story be the thing that’s missing?
You have two ways to find out with me.
Stories That Sell. We book a time, I ask you a lot of questions, and I write your signature story. You get one core story to use everywhere you show up.
Emails That Sell. Story-based emails, written for you, so your list hears from you and buys without the hard sell.
